Car keys, fobs and lockouts, handled at the shop on Nob Hill
Fobs that won't program, immobilizers that keep a car quiet, keys cut by code and doors opened without damage, from the shop at 715 W Nob Hill Blvd.
Chapter 01
When the key is the reason the car won't start
A car that cranks but will not fire, or will not crank at all, sends most people looking at the battery or the starter. At Yakima Lock & Safe, the key shop on Nob Hill, the key gets checked early. Joshua Alvarez wrote that Shaun was confident and knowledgeable in identifying that the key was the reason his car wouldn't start.
Modern keys carry a chip that has to agree with the car, and when that handshake fails the engine stays quiet. Gage Clayton's 2011 VW Jetta was that kind of problem. He had replaced the ignition switch assembly and the immobilizer still balked, so he dragged the car to the shop on a tow strap. The team laid out what he could do and what each option would cost.
He left with two working fobs and two keys to open the doors. If a car anywhere around Yakima has gone quiet on you, call (509) 248-1124 and describe exactly what it does. The shop's list includes VATS keys, keys by code, and replacing automotive locks and ignition, so diagnosing and cutting happen in the same place.

Fobs, remotes and the rubber pad inside
Factory and aftermarket remotes are both on the shop's list, and a fob that arrives in the mail is where a lot of jobs begin. Stephen Rountree took a family friend's 2005 fob and her car to Danny after a replacement bought online wouldn't program. Danny explained why the purchased fob wasn't working and tried several times to program it anyway.
Then he went back to the original fob. He replaced the rubber piece inside with one that had new contacts on the back, and it programmed. That is bench work, the kind a shop with the right equipment on hand can do. A worn contact pad can look exactly like a dead fob, and someone has to open the case to tell the difference.
Sometimes the answer comes over the phone. Manny A called about a fob that had quit and was talked through where the manual start spot is on a push-button car, how to start it, and how to reset the key. If your fob has gone dead, call (509) 248-1124 and say what it does before you order anything online.
Chapter 03
Keys by code, VATS and doors opened without damage
Not every key job starts with a key in hand. The shop lists Keys by Code, VATS Keys and Make Original Keys, which covers the days when every key is gone. Their own site says the automated systems they use can code, decode or copy a high-security key in a fraction of the time and cost of a local car dealership.
Lockouts are the other half of the work. The shop says its locksmiths have the competence and the facilities to enter any form of locked automobile without breaking the locks or the security systems. That matters on a late-model car, where a forced door can cost far more than the lockout did. Broken Key Removal and Re-Keying All Locks sit on the same list.
Classic American ride or stylish import, the shop's stated line is that it can craft and sync keys for any vehicle. Bring the car to 715 W Nob Hill Blvd in Yakima, or call (509) 248-1124 and ask about mobile service when the car can't come to the keys.
